What Paint Do I Need...
The answer to that question will depend on many different variables. What is the surface? Is there a coating already on it? If so, what is it? What will the space be used for? Interior or exterior? Will it be washed frequently? How often do you plan on recoating? Is it a high traffic or low traffic area? Traditionally the shinier the paint the more durable it was, and that still holds true today to a degree, but not always. Luckily, with modern paint technology, you can have both a matte finish and a durable surface that is scrubbable, Cheap Painter paint is scrubbable at all finishes and is highly durable, with incredibly low VOCs. So what ever the job Cheap Painter has a paint for you.
How Can I Tell If The Paint On My Wall Is Oil Or Latex?
You cannot tell by looking at it if paint is oil or latex. However, using acetone (commonly found in nail polish remover) or methyl hydrate (found in fondue fuel or gasline antifreeze) on a clean rag and rubbing the surface of the paint with it will tell you. If the paint comes off on the rag you have latex (water based) paint, if it does not come off, or only a small amount of residue is removed you have oil paint. If you do have oil you should clean and lightly sand the surface, we can recommend a conversion primer this is an excellent primer for converting from oil to latex) to use before you paint with latex paint.
Can You Mix Me Any Colour Of My Choice?
Short answer: Yes!
Cheap Painter we can mix any paint chip or colour you bring us. We have formulas for almost all other paint company colour chips; colour matching equipment for the ones we don't, and the experience and skill to make sure it’s as close to the chip as possible. Sometimes it will take a bit of time and so we ask for your patience, on busy days you may need to come back for the match, but most of the time we can do it while you wait.
Do I Need To Primer My Walls Or Can I just Paint Over?
If you have a new, uncoated surface you always need to prime it first to seal the wall and to prepare it for the paint. If it’s been painted before, in most circumstances you don’t need to prime, unless you are converting from oil to latex or there is a specialty finish on the wall (shiny glazes or a glossy paint for example). If you are using a saturated colour, especially a bright red or yellow, a deep base primer is highly recommended to achieve a true colour and to avoid the need for more than two coats of paint.
